Hosts Needed for International Students in Los Altos

The Afghan Scout Relief Fund (ASRF) started in 2021 in the wake of the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan to provide support for local Scout troops there and also support young people seeking education. Founded out of a Scout troop in New Mexico, a large part of this nonprofit's work is now helping young women of high school and college age to secure visa's in order to continue their education in the United States. Waldorf School of the Peninsula recently offered ASRF three scholarship spots for girls coming from Afghanistan and they are looking for two more local host families. The students will be in high school, are fluent in English, and have demonstrated academic excellence at home. ASRF finds the scholarships for students, covers the cost of flights, provides a laptop, a phone and phone plan to each student, coordinates therapy and more, but they can't bring students here without host families willing to provide shelter, support, and the warmth of a home. If you or anyone you know might be able to help with this, please contact Rev. Claire (claire@ccla.us) for more information. Students are likely to arrive this spring, perhaps as early as March.
