Ministries of Christ Episcopal Church
We are one in the body of Christ.
Below are descriptions of the active ministries here at Christ Church. Please take a moment to prayerfully consider how and where you might offer your voice, your time, and your gifts for the flourishing of the parish and our wider community. Our rector, Rev. Claire, would be glad to discuss this with you, or you are welcome to contact the leaders listed below to learn more and get connected.
Formation & Fellowship
Coffee Hour
Your help bringing treats, or occasionally preparing a pot of coffee for a social time after the 10:15 a.m. service, will be most welcome! Please contact Bob or Kris Stanfield for more information.
Fellowship
Here at Christ Church, radiant fellowship is one of the hallmarks of our parish life. In addition to a festive coffee hour each Sunday, we enjoy regular summer picnic, special Easter and Pentecost celebrations, an annual end-of-school picnic, and other festive gatherings held in the Parish Hall, the Lower Lawn, or offsite. People involved in fellowship serve as grill masters, contribute potluck dishes, provide decorations, help get the word out, and assist with planning, depending on their abilities and preferences.
Men’s Group
The men’s group meets for lunch once a month. Please contact Bob Stanfield for more information.
Women’s Group
The women’s group meets for lunch once a month. Please contact Kris Stanfield for more information.
Service
A/V System Operators
In order to support our hybrid services of worship, trained volunteers run the A/V console every Sunday during our 10:15 a.m. service and on special occasions. If you’re interested in learning more, please contact Rev. Claire.
Office Volunteers
From time to time, we need volunteers to assist with things like mailings, filing, gardening, organizing, and other office tasks. If you are available and interested in helping with any of this, we’d be happy to put you to work! Please contact Deanne Phillips at office@ccla.us for more information.
Outreach Committee
Our Outreach Committee coordinates hands-on service opportunities through the year and distributes grants to local, national, and international non-profits. For more information or to get involved, please contact Rev. Claire.
Pastoral Care
Lay Eucharistic Ministers
Serving around the altar on Sunday mornings is a great gift and a sacred trust. If you have ever felt called to assist with the procession, recession, and distribution of communion, please speak with Stu Farwell or Dennis Hawkins for more information.
Lay Eucharistic Visitors
When members of our community are unable to make it to church on Sunday but still want to receive the sacrament, licensed members of our congregation are available to take the consecrated bread and wine to them at home. This is a deeply meaningful service for all involved. Please contact Sheila DeLisle or Sara Boadwee if you’re interested in learning more.
Liturgical Ministries
Altar Guild
A group of parishioners prepares the altar for all worship services and helps to clean up afterward. We are always looking for more volunteers to assist with this meaningful ministry of hospitality and anticipation! Please contact Sheila DeLisle or Carol Codding for more information.
Parish Choir
The choir is one of our most vibrant ministries. The beautiful music they offer is at the very heart of our worship life. If you’re interested in joining please contact Interim Director of Music David Marsh.
Greeters
Our greeters are on hand every Sunday morning to welcome friends and newcomers to the church and help everyone get situated. Please contact Patti and Ed White for information on how to get involved.
Readers and Intercessors
One of the most visible ways in which lay members of the congregation contribute to our Sunday worship is through reading the bible lessons and bidding the intercessory prayers. To volunteer for this essential ministry, please contact Keith Ellis.
Ushers
We are always happy to have more people serving as ushers! Your warm welcome and support throughout the liturgy help everyone feel included and ensure our worship goes smoothly. To learn more, please contact Keith Ellis or David Deatherage.
Strategic Initiatives
Vital+Thriving Steering Committee
Started in late 2021, Vital+Thriving is a three-year diocese initiative to facilitate and support congregations in self-assessing, brainstorming, experimenting, and pivoting in response to the pandemic realities and move forward into the future with faith, optimism, confidence, and renewed energy. Christ Church is part of the pilot cohort of congregations participating. Our steering team includes Sara Boadwee (chair), Corrie Conrad, Mike Diamond, Jonathan Morton, Deanne Phillips, Loretta Reid and Carol Tanner.
Master Planning Committee
This group is working on a master plan for campus maintenance and improvements over the next 5, 10 and 25 years. Currently this is a subcommittee of our Building and Grounds Committee and is chaired by Rev. Claire with additional committee members Laura Bailey, Catriona Cairns, Amanda Stewart, Jenny Warila, and Bob Kunz. We are looking for some additional parishioners to join this committee; please contact Rev. Claire (claire@ccla.us) if you are interested in learning more.
