In Memoriam: The Rev. Vern Jones

The Rev. Vern Jones passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, August 16, at the age of 98. Vern was a familiar face to many Christ Church parishioners from his days as a priest for the Mandarin Chinese Congregation here and his occasional preaching at our regular Sunday services. He continued to be a presence as a parishioner at many Sunday services and Christ Church events until his declining mobility made it harder for him to get here. He served as a chaplain at Grace Cathedral, and as a chaplain for retired clergy and their spouses in the Diocese of California. He served as a supply priest in dozens of diocese congregations, a labor of love he continued well into his nineties. Plans are underway for a memorial service at Grace Cathedral, likely in late September, and we will share that information when it is available.
