The Eighth Day of Christmas

As we ring in the New Year on this eighth day of Christmas, we share Craig Hella Johnson's arrangement of "Lo, how a rose e'er blooming / The Rose." Featuring the Parish Choir with Anna Boadwee, soloist; Vivian Boudreaux Mikasa, flute; Robin Snyder, violoncello; Christopher Wilhite, trumpet; and Director of Music Eric Tuan, piano.

the American conductor and composer Craig Hella Johnson’s Lo, How a Rose / The Rose juxtaposes the classic Lutheran carol with the passionate love song made famous by Bette Midler. While at first glance an unlikely pairing of sacred and secular, both songs speak of a radical openness to love that springs forth from the most unlikely places.
