Sunday Adult Forum

Our Adult Forum begins "Episcopal 101," a multi-week series on the Episcopal Church on Sunday, March 15, 9:00-10:00 a.m., between services in person in the Fireside Room. Whether you've just recently started worshipping with Christ Church or are a lifelong Episcopalian, you are warmly invited to come and explore questions of faith and practice as we dive into the fundamentals of our tradition. If you've ever asked yourself "why do we do that?" at any point during our Sunday services, then this series is for you! If you've ever wondered how we go about interpreting the Scriptures as Episcopalians, or how a parish like Christ Church is connected to our diocese, or why we baptize both babies and adults, then come explore those wonderings with us. We invite you to bring any and all questions about the Episcopal tradition to this Forum, or email them to Revs. Claire and Cal ahead of time. No preparation is required and you don’t need to have attended previous weeks to enjoy and participate in our discussion. All are welcome! Childcare is available in the Parish Hall Library.

Witnessing the Deepest Wound: Betrayal, Doubt, and Healing in Light of Easter

Something profound happens when trust breaks. You feel it when a person, an institution, a system, or a community fails you. Betrayal creates a distinct kind of pain. As we move through the Lenten season, the Gospel readings around Easter confront this reality directly. Join members of Christ Church Los Altos, University Lutheran Church, Los Altos United Methodist Church, and Foothills Congregational Church on Wednesday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m. at University Lutheran (1611 Stanford Avenue, Palo Alto), when together we will ask how Christians respond to moments when trust collapses. We will consider what our tradition offers when individuals and communities face deep hurt. We will reflect on how the story of Holy Week and Easter reveals a God who meets us in wounded places and works toward transformation. All are welcome to come, listen, and reflect. Join us for dinner afterward!

Creation Care Wisdom from Award-Winning Theologian Jim Antal

On Saturday, February 28, 1:00-4:00 p.m., come hear the esteemed Rev. Jim Antal — national spokesperson on climate change and Special Advisor on Climate with the United Church of Christ (UCC) — address why people of faith must take on the moral challenge of addressing climate change and how to do it. He’ll explain how our current crises developed and have deepened, and remind attendees that faith groups have fostered significant social innovation throughout history. Antal will show how to protect creation by reorienting our values and empowering people to take action. The afternoon will include Antal’s keynote address, a Question & Answer session, and small-group discussions around implementing Antal’s ideas.

This event is produced by Peninsula Interfaith Climate Action and will be held at the Congregational Church of San Mateo (225 Tilton Avenue, San Mateo). While the event is free, organizers ask attendees to register through this link.
